How to honor those we have lost

One of the toughest things to do on the "happiest day of your life" is to think of those who are missing it. It is important to strike the right balance between acknowledging the loved one and fostering a festive mood for your happy occasion. Dealing with the passing of a loved one is a very personal matter, so consider whether you want your tribute to be for your eyes only or if you want a public message to recognize your loved one, or a combination of both. Here are a few ideas:

1) Set up a photo display with a special message at the reception

2) Sew a cherished photo of that person into your wedding gown

3) Create a simple bracelet using a loved one’s wedding band

4) Reserve a seat for someone who couldn’t be there with a single flower

5) Raise your glasses in a toast before the reception or have a toasting station
